SMC2 INAUGURATES THE INDOOR FOOTBALL COMPLEX IN MANOSQUE

SMC2 designs the first futsal complex with a fabric membrane

A world-class sports centre was inaugurated in Manosque last week. The complex includes four indoor five-a-side football pitches and three padel courts as well as a restaurant, a lounge bar, and a business area. This complex is the first of its kind to have been designed with a fabric cover solution.

A distinctive feature of this project is that it was carried out in record time in order to ensure that it opened before the World Cup in Brazil. SMC2 is proud to have been chosen as the first company in France to build this type of complex with a fabric cover.

An area for all footballers

MANOSQUE / PUBLISHED WEDNESDAY 28/05/2014 AT 5:42AM

“Le Complexe” was inaugurated last night with some star footballers in attendance, who attracted a large audience.

“Le Complexe” has been born. With its four five-a-side futsal pitches and three padel courts, as well as a restaurant, lounge bar, and business area, the inauguration of this new sports centre, situated in Grandes Terres, brought out quite a crowd. Amongst the crowd were Daniel Xuereb, a former member of Olympique de Marseille and the French national football team, Albert Emon, former OM and Manosque coach and assistant coach of the Olympiens, Ari Vatanen, a rally racer, as well as regional sports stars.

It took several years of effort before Laurent Chaumeton, president of the complex and former marketing director of the Simc, and his associate Olivier Amoureux, former owner of the Pizzeria de La Plaine, were able to see their dream become a reality. “It’s a fresh start, a chance to fly on my own wings”, said Michel Chaumeton in the company of his staff. “It’s the realisation of a project that has been underway for a little over three years. When I discovered these football facilities, I thought “why not do that here?” This is my home town, the city where I grew up and the place I want to invest myself in. We want to offer a solution that is in line with our city’s evolution, with regard to both its demographic and economic development.” A distinctive aspect of the Complexe is its padel courts, as the Manosque padel club is the first in France to sign with Henri Lecomte, who is a proponent of the sport in France. Padel is a cross between tennis and squash.

After padel exhibitions by French champions like Jeremy Scatena, it was the footballers’ turn to take to the synthetic court. Even more stars came out – pros, former pros from the Alpes and the EPM. Four teams took part in total, with one special guest, the La Provence football team. Facing champions, they scored four goals, with six goals against. They’re our champions!

3 REASONS TO CHOOSE TIMBER CONSTRUCTION

Opting for timber construction means choosing a building material that promotes sustainable development at every stage of its life cycle. Wood is characterised by its relatively low energy consumption. In other words, its production, transport and recycling require little energy.

Here are 3 good reasons to choose wood construction…

A RENEWABLE AND ABUNDANT RAW MATERIAL

Unlike fossil fuels, whose reserves are exhaustible, wood is a raw material:

  • Renewable: a tree regenerates in less than 100 years
  • Abundant: in Europe, forests are exploited in a sustainable manner
  • Locally available: wood is available everywhere in Europe where forests are managed in a sustainable manner.
  • Certified: the wood is traceable throughout its “career”. The PEFC and FSC labels identify sustainably managed forests.

A LOW IMPACT MATERIAL

Unlike concrete or steel, wood is a low-energy building material. It is in fact :

  • Light: its low weight optimises the energy consumed for its transformation, transport and implementation.
  • Dry: wood construction does not waste water, a scarce resource in some parts of the world.
  • Insulating: the low thermal conductivity of wood allows for substantial energy savings.

A ‘CARBONIVOROUS’ MATERIAL

Wood is a remarkable ‘carbonivorous’. It is in fact the only material whose use helps to combat greenhouse gases.

  • In the forest: for its growth, the tree absorbs atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) through photosynthesis. A well-managed and exploited forest can store 16 tonnes of CO2 annually thanks to the young shoots that are very ‘carbonivorous’.
  • In construction: wood stores up to 1 tonne of CO2 per m3.
  • As a fuel: wood energy has a very positive carbon balance because a balance is created between the absorption of CO2 during growth and its release during combustion. The ADEME estimates that 4 m3 of wood energy allow the saving of about 1 ton of oil and 2.5 tons of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere avoided.

Wood is a material par excellence for sustainable development and is a key player in the environmental challenges of tomorrow.

A COVERED SCHOOL LEISURE AREA IN THE UK

A LAUL OF SCHOOL IN ENGLAND

SMC2’s UK distributor, DOE Sport, has just finished the installation of a covered school playground area at the Whetley Primary School, in the North of England. Because of the narrowness of the area, between the two existing buildings, the erection of the structure required a complex organization. Particular emphasis was placed on the architectural integration of the canopy next to the ancient buildings of this school.

ORANGE (FRANCE) PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL, “L’ATTENTE” INAUGURATED ON SEPTEMBER THE 21ST.

It’s the first SMC2 project of this nature in France. This tensile cover is replacing an old deteriorated steel structure.

This old and deteriorated swimming pool had been closed to the public by the Security Committee. The SMC2 structure has been inaugurated on September the 21st by Jacques Bompard, the Deputy Mayor of Orange.

JEAN GACHASSIN INAUGURATES THE SMC2 INDOOR TENNIS COMPLEX IN ISTRES (BOUCHES-DU-RHÔNE)

On Saturday 19 January 2013, Jean Gachassin, President of the French Tennis Federation, inaugurated Istres’ René Davini sports complex, which features four indoor tennis courts designed and built by SMC2.

Istres’ 3,000 m² René Davini sports complex features four indoor clay tennis courts, several squash courts and a club house. SMC2 and the architect, Mr Rill, were chosen to design and construct the indoor tennis courts.

This sports complex has two unique features. The first one is the use of synthetic clay. This surface consists of bound ceramic aggregates with a brick dust top coat. The court does not need watering, does not generate dust, which facilitates the maintenance of this confined area. In addition, the courts are covered with a translucent fabric membrane roof, providing optimal brightness during the day with no need for additional lighting.

The presence of all elected officials concerned, along with Jean Gachassin, attests to the importance of the completion of this unique structure in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-D’azur region. In his inaugural address, René Raimondi, president of the Ouest Provence conurbation syndicate, the main source of funding for the project, extolled the merits of SMC2’s infrastructure: “This is a high-quality infrastructure, a magnificent complex which will now allow Istres to nurture future talent.”

Jean-Pierre Martinez, vice-President of Istres Sport Tennis, highlighted “how lucky his club is to have such high-quality facilities”.

Jean Gachassin, for his part, said he “often inaugurates tennis clubs and complexes, and this is one of the most beautiful I have seen since I was elected. The members are lucky to have these beautiful and practical facilities; it’s a rarity!”
