Open-air sports hall in Bielefeld: performance, sustainability, and year-round use
In Bielefeld, the project involves the construction of a canopy over an existing synthetic multisport court, with an adjacent long jump facility. The objective is clear: to enable continuous use of the site, regardless of weather conditions.
The design is based on a hybrid load-bearing structure combining glulam timber and hot-dip galvanized steel, delivering structural performance, durability, and architectural quality.
The roof is made of trapezoidal steel sheeting, allowing for the installation of a photovoltaic system across the entire surface. The project therefore integrates a strong energy component, focused on autonomy and renewable energy production.
Integrated LED lighting at 540 lux ensures optimal playing conditions in the evening.
As part of the project, the multisport court and the long jump facility are fully renovated. The entire area is enclosed by a system of perimeter curbs, complemented by ball-stop netting extending up to the roof, ensuring safety and continuity of play.
