Construction of a Sports Canopy in Méjannes-le-Clap
SMC2 presents the new 1,220 m²/13 128FT² sports canopy in the town of Méjannes-le-Clap, in France—a modern and functional space that blends perfectly into the local landscape.
The canopy stands out for its simple and sleek geometry, featuring a tensile fabric roof and semi-perforated fabric facades.
The textile membrane provides protection from the elements while allowing natural light to filter through, enhancing the playing experience, even during extreme heat.
The structure, made of glulam timber and steel, offers both strength and aesthetic appeal. The open wooden cladding on the facades gives the building a natural and high-quality look, while also protecting it from the weather.
The interior space is designed to be flexible and adaptable, with mobile basketball hoops and handball goals. In addition to the 3×3 basketball court, the facility includes locker rooms, restrooms, treatment rooms for physiotherapists, and a massage area.
The sports canopy, fitted with customizable Powergame tiles, offers full personalization options, along with scoreboards and movable sports equipment.
A Sustainable and Olympic-Ready Facility
From an environmental perspective, the building has been entirely designed to minimize its carbon footprint.
This canopy also served as a preparation site for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Three disciplines were selected for training: 3×3 basketball, Breakdancing, Cycling. This initiative led to the creation of a cycling hub, featuring dedicated road circuits and a one-of-a-kind para-cycling loop in France.
