PLAYGROUND – LYON CONFLUENCE (FRANCE)
COMPLETION DATE 2024
SURFACE AREA 4263 Ft2
Construction of an outdoor playground in the shape of a giant caterpillar.
SMC2 has built a spectacular playground called “Caterpilou”, with numerous games, including some accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Covering an area of 1,200 m²/12916.69ft²,, the impressive construction is 50 m long and 12 m high.
This colorful, imposing playground is made up of several interconnected segments for children aged 0 to 14. Each offers different activities for different age groups.
Specialists in play architecture, SMC2 have created a bespoke play area incorporating numerous play elements such as swings, two giant 6-metre-high slides, nets, suspension bridges, tunnels and a wave floor… enough to allow children to climb, crawl, slide and explore through the different parts of the caterpillar’s body. All in a unique, safe play area in the heart of the modern Confluence district.
Caterpilou seems to have won over the hearts of the people of Lyon: between July and August 2024, an average of 3,500 children came to have fun every day!
The construction of this playground is the first phase in a project to rejuvenate the urban space; soon a vast urban forest will be created with the planting of around 40 trees.
