GRANDSTAND – LUCCIANA (CORSICA, FRANCE)

Covering of an Existing Grandstand with a Textile Membrane in Lucciana, Corsica

Within the Charles Galletti sports complex, in the heart of the town of Lucciana, SMC2 constructed the covered grandstand for an athletics stadium.

This project stands out from others due to its scale. The steel framework consists of two three-dimensional truss beams with a span of 213 ft! The roof is a single-panel structure measuring approximately 213 ft x 46 ft, covering 9 795 sqft of textile membrane. The textile roof provides natural light while protecting spectators from the sun and rain. The flexibility, lightness, and white color of this material make it ideal for this type of structure, promoting an eco-friendly roof while preventing the urban center from overheating.
